Simon’s post below details the first weekend of our Dove workshop well. I’ve spent all of today carving bars of soap for a photoshoot that my group and I are having at CSM tomorrow. My hands are covered in soapiness!

In other news, I sent my first invoice ever this week. As could be expected from my first paid job, there was some confusion over the original terms and… it was slightly embarassing. That’ll teach me, next time I’ll write up a proper contract!

Lisa, Netta, Tsvetelina and me are doing a group project named ‘Beauty Project’ for Dove brand.

Because of the fact that it is a short 2-week project hence the timetable is really tough, it required us to work full-time during the weekends (10-7, yes, 10am-7pm Sat-Sun) and whenever we are free to meet up with our own group to develop the project.

The first few days have been exciting and lots of work, we had our first meeting with Dove’s representative and being introduced to the brand, the workshop objectives and the workshop brief.

With a dozen fellow students from CSM and Chelsea, our group has 15 students divided into 5 groups of 3, under two tutors including Cecilie from Gilles&Cecilie Studio.

Now with our own group of 3 students. we are currently working on brainstorming ideas / concepts for the mission of helping women to realize their personal potential for beauty, via medium of design.

More information and pictures coming soon.

( p/s: we are really lucky that Dove sponsored everyone that took part in this workshop. Lots of Dove’s products and each group is given £250 to buy anything that needed for the project )

Simon.

So, I’ve been working on Typo London for four days last week. Lots of nice people to meet, both on the speaker and student side.

Check the blog for a better account than I am able to give, as I only saw a few talks, having to guard doors, run around or buy sweets for the crew most of the time.

It was a really interesting experience to be part of such a large event, and see how it is organized and see all these famous designers backstage. Some people overexagerate their behaviour towards famous designers… they really treat them like super humans. It’s a bit strange sometimes, but really interesting to see.

Also, I am going to go back home for a short time next week and start work on a job we got offered by the Centre Pompidou in Metz (it’s the equivalent of the Tate in Liverpool I guess), to design a kit for their children birthday events. We also have a few other projects we want to work on, so, we’ll see how that goes!

Hope you’re all well,

Sophie

Last week I finished the catalogue pitch for the international bank. Just sent off the mock up books to the bank the other day. Sounds like they’re really interested in it, hopefully they will say yes and we can get them printed.

This week I been working on Port magazine.  Flowing in real text, and placing images into the layouts. Learning the process of how the company works. Such a huge process… images have to go through so many people etc. I’ve got the job of re-designing the stockist page! I’m lucky to be designing a double spread in the magazine, even though its a not so important page at the back of the magazine, Kuchar said its the best stockist page he’s seen, I’m happy with it :) I had to manually fix the curly brackets I’ve used accordingly on the page…  Well you can all see it when the magazine goes to the press on November 2nd and released for sale!! Exciting, this issue is definitely the best one so far! Look forward to it!!

Please check out the vimeo link below. My house mate mitch works with this guy who has made his own credits for the new Tin Tin film. He is a massive fan of Tin Tin. He put his film/sequence on Vimeo and it got loads of hits straight away. It then got viewed by people who work for Steven Spielberg and Spielberg offered him a job. HOW SICK IS THAT!!!

hello,

during the past few weeks i have been working on a music video for L.A. artist BLU. the video is shot against a white backdrop, and i have been illustrating the white background. it’s not paid, but i learnt something new, and will be credited. it’s exiting and intense and i must say i am enjoying my new skill.i am afraid i can’t post any snapshots until the video is released (boring).

last week i rejoined lifeBeat for a football game between facilitators, the youth and nomura (one of their sponsors). lucky for me i wasn’t playing, but documenting the event.

i have been taken on bord a BEAUTY project, for which GILLES & CECILIE STUDIO  were recruiting students to participate. our the briefing is on friday and the project will run until the 10th of november.i am really really looking forward to it.

also have been in the studio with fru, photographing our work, and preparing to build a website.

postmodernism at the v&a made my heart skip a beat, it is so beautifully presented, and so overwhelming that i will need to go back and see it again.

My coding practice has paid off, I’ve made my own website completely from scratch. I even stuck in some JavaScript, check me out!

Oh, and I now have nifty business cards.

Lisa Grant's business card

I’ve also been offered some work with the good people of Artsadmin where I did my Summer Project. They’ve asked me to help out on the Youth Board and they’ll be having a meeting tomorrow to decide what to do with me. Find out more about the Artsadmin Youth Board here.

And I believe I’ll be seeing one or two of you on Thursday for an exciting project with Gilles & Cecilie Studio. I look forward to it!

Will be exhibiting in the “Conversation with my Conscience; London Riots” exhibition on the 3rd November. It’ll be curated by an LCC alumni, Abi Wright. I found out that Marcus Aitken, a fellow classmate will be exhibiting too, so exciting times…! I hope you all can make it to the private view…!

My exhibition piece is more autobiographical and it emphasises how in this circumstance, social media was actually more reliable, up to date than news website. It was like LIVE news broadcasting throughout all the days.

I’ve also entered the Observer/ Comica/ Jonathan Cape comic competition, results will be announced this week. My entry explores the current situation of the demolition of the estate blocks, e.g. Heygate, Aylesbury Estate etc. Where the current residents are forced to relocate without the promise to return to the newly built flats that will replace the estates. I’ll upload the comic online soon~!

Through my comic internship, I got to meet the amazing Lyn Weddle who specialises in art education, believing strongly in arts therapy. It was hugely inspirational as I’ll be delivering workshops soon too, her case studies were enlightening. It makes you realise, it’s not about cramming a ton of info in, but rather, what does the participant leave with?

If you’ll like to read more about our adventures at my internship~ please check out our group blog: || londonprintstudio comics ||

At the moment, I’m preparing for the London MCM expo, as I have an exhibitor’s table! This event will be held in Excel Centre on the 28th – 30th October. I was hoping to have a comic in a perfect bound book to sell in this event. However, I actually found out that publishers prefer non finalised products as there is more room to work with~ Nonetheless, I’ll be selling illustration prints and doing commissions throughout the day.

Soon after, I’ll have to prepare for COMICA Festival, on the 12th November as I’ll have an exhibitor’s table there too…! Again… I wouldn’t have a finished book to sell… but hopefully it’ll be a major learning experience!

Well as some of you may know i’ve flown to Philippines to start an internship at World Impact ad agency. I was originally gonna work for Publicis Ad agency but i decided that i’d learn a lot more when I met the partner of World Impact agency.
(Partner in ad terms to some who don’t know is basically one of the owners of the agency itself).
The partner at that company has offered to take me under his wing and ‘show me the ropes’ as he would say.
So my work would be based not only in creative, but also on production, meeting clients, and presentations as well as learning how to be an account executive at an ad agency.

During one of the meetings, I met the head of Department of Tourism of the Philippines and she asked me to be the representative for London for tourism of the 3rd generation campaign.
To basically encourage 3rd generation to still visit the Philippines.
Its run by Globe simcard, so I had to ‘model’ for them basically (random I know).
The photoshoot lasted 3 hours and I got paid 30k Pesos.
I’m starting to think that I pursued the wrong career Lol!

All jokes aside.
The campaign runs till 2016 and they will also do on-the-set shooting.
So whenever i’m back in London and they need to shoot in Boracay beach etc.
They will fly me over and pay for all expenses :D .

Thanks to the head of Department of Tourism :) .
After all that, I forgot that I had a meeting with the clients.

I got carried away but hey, I get free vacations till 2016. Can’t complain.

I’ll upload photos of the set soon, till then’. Ciao.
-Alistair
