Monthly Archives: August 2011

Yeah, the past 4 days were a real pain in the bottom but it all paid off when i saw the colour of the money.

This was the nicest Indian in the fair and he looks so much like someone from a mexican soap opera. we had a good laugh me and the girls.

This job had nothing to do with any of the things I wanna learn. I was translating for some indians in a fair of ‘gifts and house decoration stuff’. I got almost as much as i get in a month in my internships together and at the end of the fair i also got some carpets, bedsheets and cushions as presents.

One thing I got out of this as well is that some of these indians have contacts in the animation industry in India. they gave me some tips and you know…everything counts. I dont know if anything will come out of this but it doesnt cost anything to say to everyone what you are all about this year.

I am saying to all the people I meet about my year out coz I believe everyone is a possible contact. Maybe they don’t have anything to do with the design world but maybe they know someone who does.

This week I concentrated on getting the designs for the posters done for the Map Squad’s Bubble Club. They were sent off on Friday evening. Once we find out the measurements of the door to the tent we’ll be able to sort out the outside decorations. I’m very excited to see it all finished!

Here’s the front and back of the flyers I’ve made to be handed out on the day, come along on the 10th of September to Mile End Park to have some cocktails and some fun!

Hope to see some of you there in a couple of weeks!

its been a while since i last contributed to the blog so heres everything thats happening

1 – im not sure if i posted this but after the space between exhibition i was approached to be part of a MA Narrative Spaces project at CSM, before i stated it was a job but i class it now as an internship. so i have been working on that organising a meeting with the MOD for technological support by their engineers. here s a link to the piece i exhibited

http://www.christopheramaning.com/whatusedtobe.html

2- i randomly got an email from this branding/ddesign company called creative leap, i had no idea who they were and was contacted by their director, apparently i was recommended by a tutor that i only spoke to a few time. so afte ri showed my gratitude to this tutor i followed up on the offer of a paid internship within the packaging design department, which includes branding and marketing, after attending the interview i was offered the place along with another student from LCC for 3 weeks, on the last day of the internship, i was offered another placement with the company but in a different department this time in the corporate design department which i am currently on now, where i am producing an animation for a company to go on their website single handedly. Unfortunately i cannot post any images of this placement as it is possible to revel information which will conflict with the confidentiality agreement i had to sign.

3 – During my placement with Creative Leap, i became aware of an interactive event in the Indigo at the O2 on 8th October, on behalf of Sencity. this seems to be more connected with what i want to do in the future. i am currently producing an installation piece within the indigo space.  images will be included of researched images of what i want to produce. im taking this Sencity project as an escape from corporate design.

4 – So basically monday to friday 930 – 530 i work at Creative Leap, Wednesday 6-8 Sencity, Tuesday 6-8 i am working on designing the book i am publishing, in hope of selling in a design stores which i am in the process of approaching. saturday- sunday i work part time in retail, then it all starts all over again this will be going on for about 2 months.

5 – A placement at creative leap has given me the opportunity to push my practical design skills and thought process in which i am applyign to the design of my book, as a result of this placement i have developed a sense of clarity snowballing in me redesigning my website to a more professional standard.

6 – I have made some good contacts, within cretaive leap, sencity, CSM etc.. so i am now tryingto get al my design related friends involved by gettin them placements and recommennding them for jovs placements etc…

7 – ohh i forgot i am currently taking the position as creative director of my brothers company where i am designign all the merchadise and website working with a web designer. this has brought up some challenges i will reflect on those another day when im not so busy.

8 – i was offered a place wiht the light surgeons but unfortunately i couldn’t take it just yet so i have been offered to come their in October to intern with them, so thats a positive.

9- i havent conacted everyone on my list yet but things seem to be snowballign into placment after placement so im happy .

10- i think the most surprising and important this so far is that people who are seeing my work actually like it, this is the most important thing to me, as i have a very pessimistic perspective of my work, but with all of these positive feedbacks from companies even those who avent brought me on for a placement in helping me develop some self belief in my art/design eye and a little bit of a confidence boost. which i think is all i really wanted.

So, last week was the last week of the Artsadmin Summer Project, we finished off with 8 performances back to back on Thursday. Our audience was almost completely booked up and included director Simon Vincenzi and performance artist Franko B.

Some point soon I should get my hands on some of the professional shots of our work and performances, which I’ll share with you. For now, though, here’s a photo we took on Thursday night, celebrating a successful performance!

Im on the Advertising pathway and this week I can say for sure I had the first highlight of my DPS year out.

I went to the filming set of a tv commercial for a car which is yet to come out. I can’t say the name of the car but I guess that doesn’t matter.

This is an ad made by Trator production studio in partnership with GM advertising agency (this one is international). I work at Trator.

One thing I learnt this week is to keep on pushing people so they let you go out there and experience what you want to experience.

I am usually quite shy but in this day I just talked to everyone I could to learn what their jobs are all about.

It was a very long day coz we filmed for 14 short films that will go to the web.

This guy is the guy who controls the text that shows on the display for the actor to follow. The director is Alex Miranda and he likes to control the camera as well.

It was a good day. =]

Last week, I found out ECCA was looking for a graphic designer for their upcoming event Enterprise Week, an annual event. I sent out my application and CV to them and I just got an email reply said that I have been shortlisted and will need to pitch my ideas on the 31st August.

Really exciting, yet nerve-wracking!

Simon

Hello everyone!
Apologies for the lateness of this entry as I wasn’t too sure if I was registered to DPS or not…!!
I’m hoping I am not too far behind~ I’m currently applying to a ton on internships~

1) Fixed up my website: www.susanyanmach.com ; there’s quite a few works I wish to remove and replace with newer projects, but that will happen in due time.

2) A self published project of a 48 page comic book, this will be sold in expos/conventions and fanzines fair. I’m also hoping to send out a copy of the book to companies with a CV inside.

3) Was approached by a small record label to illustrate an EP cover for an emerging duo~ but after when questioning about the copyright and more information about the project, they haven’t replied to me since. (I’m assuming they got their first choice artist!)

4) I’m currently a finalist for a international student competition, in Taiwan. The results will be released in September. They’ll be holding an exhibition featuring the finalist’s works in Taiwan, as I had to print my submissions in A0 and ship it abroad. Quite sad I won’t be able to attend the exhibition myself~

5) Planning to contribute new illustrations to an upcoming magazine in their debut issue.
 More information soon~

Last saturday YCC held the second of their collaborations with Jelly London – a Do-shop teaching Junior teams, Art Directors, Copywriters, Designers and the like how to brief our ideas into production agency such as Jelly.

We were given a brief for ‘Twinings’ along with a script that we have to visualise and conceptualize, which in turn comes the best part.
Telling illustrators what to do :D ! Apologies for the illustration students.

We come up with the ideas and get handed a catalogue of different illustrators style and techniques to choose which is best suited for the script.

For those of you who want to make contacts.
YCC and Jelly London are always doing workshops. So add them on Facebook or Twitter.

Ciao for now,
